The Calabash Lounge's credo is “Experiencing a Taste of Africa” and its owners believe that anyone who visits the Calabash Lounge will enjoy a strong connection with their countries of origin.
The name of the Calabash Lounge was chosen because the calabash is something common to both African and Caribbean countries. “The calabash is a rare dry seed, mostly grown in the tropics and largely in Africa. It has a very hard outer shell that holds water, which symbolizes life. The calabash can also be used for various useful purposes which was cultivated from Africa, such as serving as a drinking cup, artwork, a musical instrument, etc. Africans mostly drink water from the calabash thereby capturing the true meaning of life.”
Regular meetings are held by those employed at the Calabash Lounge each night, to ensure that its service is and continues to be first-rate.
The primary function of The Calabash Lounge is “to create an atmosphere where people can feel very relaxed, where they can eat and drink and have fun, have a relaxing experience so they will want to come back.” The Calabash Lounge also thrives on the ability to always wow its clients and leave a good impression, not only for the Calabash but for the continent of Africa and the people of the Caribbean.
